What’s the deal?

Erie Canal Theatre specializes in audio productions and has been creating original shows on their podcast and for radio since 2015. We’re most well-known for the epic 18-episode sci-fi comedy “Switchboard Infinity”. We’ve made many hours of content, but if you’d like to dive in and hear what we’re about, maybe try episode 14 of “Switchboard”.

Why audio? Because it demands imagination of the listener. Because it is one of the few digital places where attention spans are increasing. Because it’s cheaper to produce than video. Because some of us are visually impaired. Because we love you.

We are improvisors, filmmakers, actors, writers and sound designers based in Detroit, and we strive to combine those disciplines in new ways. For 2017, we’re working to create dozens of original podcast productions as well as performing a smattering of live improv shows.

“Wait a minute. The Erie Canal doesn’t go to Detroit,” you may think, “are you some kind of flim-flam organization? Why did you make me type my social security number into your site?”

Moo-h00-WAH-HA-HA-HAAAaa! Nevermind that.

Best,
Joe Krause

Our Shows So Far

This feature-length dark comedy is our current production and is rolling out over a six-episode span. A stand up comedian struggling to make it in 1980s New York is given a chance at fame and wealth, but at high cost!
For Halloween, we created our own version of the classic, creepy radioplay “The Thing on the Fourble Board” from the show “Quiet, Please”. If you don’t know what a “fourble board” is, now is the only chance you may ever get to learn. Beware.
This is the big one. 18 episodes of sci-fi comedy spanning six hours of immersive storytelling. Originally premiered within the show “Dance With Me, Stanley” on WFMU in New Jersey, this is the series that launched ECT. Follow Malcom and Thalia across our Solar System as they battle the moderately-to-significantly sinister WizBit Corporation.
